Animated Weather Radar Loops as a Blue Iris camera

Browser

(I’m using Firefox, similar can be done with other browsers.)

  1. Go to this Link, https://www.wunderground.com/maps/radar/current/usa
  2. Select the Region you want displayed.
  3. Click “Play Animation”
  4. Right Click on the image and choose “Copy Image Location”. (In Chrome it would be Copy Image Address”.
  1. Paste this link into a new tab, if you only see the animated image you have the correct link.
  2. For my example, my link is https://s.w-x.co/staticmaps/wu/wxtype/county_loc/spi/animate.png

Blue Iris Setup

Network

  1. Add a new camera like the following:
  2. Change address to https://.
  3. Copy and paste the address from above into the address line, remove everything except what is shown in the picture.
  4. Change Model to JPEG/GIF/etc. image requests.
  5. Copy and paste the address from above into the path line, remove everything except what is shown in the picture.
  1. There’s no need to click “Find/Inspect”.
  2. Click “OK”.

On the Video Tab of the new camera.

  1. Select the “Max rate” as shown.
  2. If you want to add Overlays, do so here.
  3. I also selected “Limit decoding unless required”
  4. Click “OK”.
  1. You should now see your new Doppler camera.

NOTE: You may want to disable all motion detection, alerts, triggers, etc.
